Carlo Meintz

Carlo Meintz (born May 5, 1933 in Lintgen ( Luxembourgish Lëntgen ); † February 15, 2018 ) was a Luxembourg politician and teacher. He was the brother of the archivist and curator Claude Meintz .

Political activity

Carlo Meintz was from 1967 to 1987 and from 2000 to 2002 mayor of the municipality of Walferdingen ( Luxembourgish Walfer , French Walferdange ). From 1974 to 1998 he was for the Democratic Party (DP) in the Luxembourg Parliament (including ten years as Vice-President, 1984–1994, and four years as President of the DP Group, 1980–1984). 1974–1979 member of the European Parliament (see: List of Members of the European Parliament before 1979 ). From February 11, 1998 to May 5, 2005 he was a member of the State Council .

Other activities

From 1986 to 1996 he was President of the Luxembourg Youth Hostels headquarters. Meintz was an avid basketball player and has been President of the Luxembourg Basketball Federation since 1990.
