Carlo Pellegrini (March 1839 in Capua , † January 22, 1889 in London ) was an Italian draftsman and caricaturist who worked in London from the end of 1864 and whose caricatures have been published regularly in Vanity Fair magazine since 1869 .

Carlo Pellegrini's father was the descendant of an ancient family resident in the province of Caserta known as Sedili Capuani . His mother was a descendant of the Medici . In 1860 Pellegrini fought as a volunteer under Giuseppe Garibaldi in the Battle of the Volturno . In November 1864 he came to London. He made caricatures of statesmen and other public figures. A cartoon by Benjamin Disraeli began a series of weekly cartoons in Vanity Fair magazine on January 30, 1869 and continued until his death in 1889. Pellegrini signed the first drawings with "Singe". Eventually, "Ape" became his final signature .

In 1871 Pellegrini created a statuette for Robert Lowe from terracotta . He painted oil portraits of Sir Edward Watkin (1819–1901), Sir Algernon Borthwick (1830–1908) and others. In 1878 Pellegrini's paintings were exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts .
