Carlos Alberto O'Donell

Carlos Alberto O'Donell (born October 11, 1912 in Buenos Aires , Argentina , † February 14, 1954 , San Miguel de Tucumán , Argentina) was an Argentine botanist . Its official botanical author abbreviation is " O'Donell ".

Life

O'Donell studied at the Manuel Belgrano National High School and studied pharmacology at the Universidad de Buenos Aires , graduating with a diploma in 1937. In addition to many work on pharmacology and plant anatomy , he mainly worked in the field of plant taxonomy . From 1937 to 1954 he worked for the Miguel Lillo Foundation in San Miguel de Tucumán .

His main interest was the bindweed family (Convolvulvaceae), besides which he also dealt with, among other things, the yoke leaf family (Zygophyllaceae) and milkweed family (Euphorbiaceae).

Honors

In 1982 Kenneth R. Robertson named the genus Odonellia from the bindweed family in his honor.
