Carlos Calderon de la Barca

Carlos Calderón de la Barca Perea (born October 2, 1934 in Mexico City , † September 15, 2012 in Puebla ) was a Mexican football player in the position of the striker .

biography

During his most successful years (1956 to 1958), in which he made a total of eight international appearances and scored three goals for the Mexican national team, Calderón de la Barca was under contract with his hometown club Atlante . In 1958 he moved to New in the second division recorded Poza FC . Towards the end of his active career, he made a significant contribution to the fact that the Club Universidad Nacional became champions of the Segunda División in the 1961/62 season and thus rose to the Primera División , in which the club has been continuously represented since then.

He made his international debut in the 1-1 draw against Costa Rica on February 26, 1956 as part of the Pan American Championships, and in this game he also scored his first international goal. He also played his next four international matches in this tournament and scored both goals in a 2-1 win over Chile on March 17, 1956.

The highlight of his international career was participation in the 1958 World Cup , where he played the opening game against hosts Sweden (0: 3). The match that took place on June 8, 1958 was also his last international match.

Calderón de la Barca died of a heart attack in Puebla in September 2012 .
