The Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles was a European Tour golf tournament that was played at the Gleneagles Hotel in Scotland until 2013 . The tournament was founded in 1999 as the Scottish PGA Championship and has since changed names several times despite the same sponsor as Diageo tried to promote different brands . The competition was last played on the PGA Centenary Course , formerly known as the Monarch's Course , which will host the Ryder Cup in 2014 .

Aside from The Open Championship , which takes place in Scotland for most of the years due to a rotation system, the Johnnie Walker Championship was one of three tournaments on the European Tour played in the Home of Golf, alongside the Scottish Open and Dunhill Links Championship .

The event should not be confused with the Johnnie Walker Classic , which is the long-established golf tournament played in the Asia-Pacific region and supported by the European Tour, PGA Tour of Australasia and Asian Tour .
