Carlos Cruz-Diez (born August 17, 1923 in Caracas , † July 27, 2019 in Paris ) was a Venezuelan artist ( Concrete Art ). He is considered an important representative of Op Art .

Life

From 1940 to 1945 he studied in Caracas at the local college of fine arts ( Escuela de Artes Plasticas y Aplicadas de Caracas ). In 1986 Cruz-Diez was appointed professor and director of the art department at the IDEA - Institut International d'Etudes Avancées in Caracas. Important categories of his artistic work are Transchromie (accessible installations), Couleur Additive ( color addition in the border area of ​​two colors), Physichromie (varying light effects through movement), Induction Chromatique (optical afterimage ) and Environnement Chromointerférent (computer-controlled projection creates a space of vertically moving ones Light streak detected).
