Carlos Machado (born June 18, 1980 in Priego de Córdoba ) is a Spanish table tennis player .
Career
The Spaniard appeared for the first time in 1995, when he reached the second round at the European Youth Championships. Further appearances did not follow until 1999, as the Spanish federation did not allow him to participate in other tournaments. So he took part in the World Championships in Eindhoven , where he failed prematurely in singles and doubles. However, he was able to reach the third round in mixed. In 2000 he took part in the European Championship for men, where Machado reached the round of 16 in doubles with He Zhiwen . He also played in the World Cup , with the team he came in 21st.
In 2001 he fell back twenty places in the world rankings because he was little active. However, he was able to reach the second round in doubles at the World Cup with He Zhiwen. He also took part in singles and mixed, but had to admit defeat in the first rounds. Until 2005 he could not take part in any European championships because he was disqualified on suspicion of doping. From 2005 he took part in international tournaments more often and was able to reach the round of 16 with He Zhiwen at both the World Cup and the European Championship . In the singles he had to give up early again.
In 2006 he reached the worst position with the Spanish team at a World Cup, namely the elimination in a group with the last (fourth) place. In 2007 he reached the round of 16 at a European Championship, as in 2005 and 2000 with He Zhiwen, the Spaniard had to say goodbye in the individual already in the second round. In qualifying for the Olympic Games, he narrowly missed the ticket for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and was therefore not allowed to participate.
In 2008 Machado was in the last 64 singles at the European Championships, at the World Cup and at the China and Spanish Open, he lost early. In 2009 he achieved his best result at the European Championships, namely reaching the third round in the individual.
In 2010, further participation in tournaments followed, namely the European Championship, the World Cup and the Spanish Open, where Machado was eliminated early in the second round. In 2011 he was able to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games in London by winning the Bulgarian Open and the qualifying tournament, where he played from the first round and failed in the second.
In 2013 he won the bronze medal at the European Championships together with He Zhiwen, his best position in doubles at a European Championship.
In 2014 he reached the quarter-finals at the World Cup with the team, the best placement of a Spanish team since 1959. In 2015 he had one of the last appearances, but he won gold in doubles with He Zhiwen at the Spanish Open, at least he reached the European Games the round of 16.
From 2017 he ended his career.
