Carlos Novas Mateo (born January 31, 1992 in Santo Domingo ) is an Austrian basketball player. He is under contract with the Danish club Team FOG Næstved .
career
Novas Mateo, who was born in the Dominican Republic, gained his first Bundesliga experience in the shirt of Basket Clubs of Vienna during the 2008/09 season . After a year in Germany, during which he played for the Nuremberg club Franken Hexer in the 2nd regional league and in the youth basketball league , Novas Mateo returned to his home country and in the following years played for the Bundesliga clubs Traiskirchen, Gmunden, Oberwart and again Traiskirchen.
In the spring season 2016 he was in the service of the Plaza Fernando Valerio club in the Dominican Republic, followed by an engagement with the German regional league club SG Lützel-Post Koblenz , for which he scored an average of 15.7 points per match and was therefore the second best thrower within the team. After another detour to the Dominican Republic, Novas Mateo was signed by Bundesliga club WBC Raiffeisen Wels for the 2017/18 season .
In the summer break of 2018, he signed a contract with the Spanish second division club CBC Valladolid, where he scored an average of 6.1 points in 37 league encounters during the 2018/19 season. In August 2019 he was signed by the FOG Næstved team ( Denmark's first division ).
National team
Novas Mateo played international matches for Austria in the age groups U16, U18 and U20. At the U16-B-European Championship 2008 he was the best thrower of the Austrians with an average of 15.4 points, at the U18-B-EM 2010 he led the national team with 15.8 points per match. At the end of November 2017, he made his debut in the men's national team in the World Cup qualifier against Serbia.
