Carlos Oscar Uebel

Carlos Oscar Uebel (born June 5, 1948 in São Leopoldo , Rio Grande do Sul , Brazil ) is a Brazilian specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery . He achieved international recognition a. a. due to his scientific contributions and operational developments in the reconstruction of human head hair, aesthetic body shaping and facial rejuvenation.

life and work

Carlos Oscar Uebel was born as the youngest son of German parents, the entrepreneur Nilo Uebel and his wife Lilly (†), in the city of São Leopoldo, in Rio Grande do Sul, the southernmost state of Brazil.

Between 1967 and 1972 he studied human medicine at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Brazil. After further training in general surgery , trauma medicine , hand surgery and reconstructive surgery at the "Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul" (UFRGS), Brazil and at the "Hospital Beneficiência Portuguesa" in Porto Alegre , Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil (1973 to 1975), He specialized in plastic and aesthetic surgery at the world-famous department of Ivo Pitanguy at the “Pontifícia Universidade Católica” (PUC-RIO) in Rio de Janeiro , Brazil. In addition to his many years of stationary work, u. a. Carlos O. Uebel has been director of the private clinic “Clínica de Cirurgia Plástica Uebel Ltda” since 1988 in the hospitals “Moinhos de Vento” (HMV) and “São Lucas da Pucrs” (HSL-PUCRS), Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil. As a member of the academic faculty of the University Hospital "Hospital São Lucas da PUCRS" (HSL-PUCRS) which is liable for the function of a preceptor and faculty since 1997, the responsibility for the plastic surgical training and education of numerous students and junior doctors.

After successfully completing his habilitation , Carlos Oscar Uebel was appointed Professor of Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery by the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul in 2006.

Various surgical procedures and techniques, which are now a natural element of the plastic-surgical treatment armamentary, were partly described for the first time by Carlos Oscar Uebel, partly further developed and perfected. His interests and research content were not only limited to the macroscopic-physical treatment level, but also included topics from basic cell biological research.

Carlos Oscar Uebel has been organizing the "International Symposium on Plastic Surgery" every year since 2000. Not least because of the presence of selected top-class specialists and experts in the art of plastic surgery, science, research and practice, this meeting has meanwhile established itself as a permanent fixture on the international congress calendar.

Carlos Oscar Uebel is married to Walderez Spencer, a professor of nursing science and has two children with her.
