Carmelo Arden Quin
Carmelo Arden Quin , actually Carmelo Heriberto Alves , (born March 16, 1913 in Rivera , Uruguay , † September 27, 2010 in Savigny-sur-Orge , France ) was a Uruguayan artist .
Life
Growing up in Brazil, he met Joaquín Torres García in Montevideo in 1935 . This encounter set the course for the rest of his life. In the same year a first exhibition followed in Montevideo . In 1944 he was involved in the creation of the group and magazine of the same name, Arturo . Two years later he founded the Madí movement together with Gyula Kosice , Diyi Laan and Rhod Rothfuss . In 1948 he moved to Paris . There he exhibited his first pictures, sculptures and relief works of art the following year in the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles . In 1955 he returned to South America and founded the Asociación Arte Nuevo in Buenos Aires together with Aldo Pellegrini . In 1956, however, his path led him back to Paris. Arden Quin, who used materials such as wood, cardboard, Plexiglas and plastic pipes for his works of art , was able to look back on numerous exhibitions in Europe and Japan. Arden Quin was married to Sofía Kunst at the side of whom he died at the age of 97 in his house in Savigny-sur-Orge near Paris.
Awards
He was awarded the Medal of the Republic ( Medalla de la República ) by the Uruguayan Foreign Ministry . Montevideo declared him an honorary citizen ( Ciudadano Ilustre ) and the government in Buenos Aires made him a cultural ambassador.
