Gyula Kosice (born April 26, 1924 in Košice in what was then Czechoslovakia as Fernando Fallik;May 25, 2016 in Buenos Aires ) was an Argentinian object artist of Slovak origin and a representative of kinetic art and light art in connection with water and noble gases, the " hydrokinetics ".

life and work

In 1947 he had his first solo exhibition at the Bohemian Club in Galerías Pacífico in Buenos Aires, the first exhibition of abstract art in Latin America. In 1949 he started his " hydrokinetic " objects made of water, light and movement. In 1961 he had an exhibition in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and in 1967 he took part in the exhibition Art-Light-Art in the Van Abbe Museum in Eindhoven . In 1968 he was represented with four hydrokinetic objects at the 4th documenta in Kassel . Gyula Kosice had a total of 40 solo and 500 group exhibitions.

Gyula Kosice used the name of his native town as an artist name. He was one of the forerunners of abstract and non-figurative art in Latin America . He used water and neon gas as part of a work of art for the first time in the international art scene . Light and movement are an essential part of his works. Kosice has converted his studio and workshop into a museum. He was an Argentine citizen and lived in Buenos Aires.
