Carmen Ionescu (gymnast)

Carmen Ionescu (born November 22, 1985 in Bucharest ) is a former Romanian artistic gymnast .

She started gymnastics at Steaua Bucharest at the age of five. At 13, she was included in the junior national team in Oneşti. In 2000, Ionescu won silver with the team at the Junior European Championships in Paris and reached seventh place on the uneven bars.

Her greatest success came at the 2001 World Gymnastics Championships . In Ghent, Belgium, Ionescu won the world championship with the Romanian gymnastics team with Andreea Răducan , Loredana Boboc , Sabina Cojocar , Silvia Stroescu and Andreea Ulmeanu ahead of Russia and the USA.

Ionescu ended her career in 2002 due to an injury. She studied sport and became a trainer.
