Carmen Smith-Brown

Carmen Smith-Brown (née Smith; born February 16, 1943 in Saint Catherine Parish ) is a former Jamaican sprinter and hurdler .

In 1962, she won bronze over the 80 m hurdles at the Central America and Caribbean Games . At the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Perth , she failed over 100 yards , 220 yards and 80 m hurdles in the run-up and came fourth in the Jamaican 4-by-110-yard relay.

At the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964, she reached the semi-finals over 100 m . Over 80 m hurdles and in the 4 x 100 meter relay , she was eliminated in the first round.

Two years later she won the Central America and Caribbean Games over 80 m hurdles and took bronze over 100 m . At the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Kingston in 1966 , there was silver over 80 m hurdles over 100 yards and bronze with the 4 x 110 yard relay; over 100 yards she was eliminated in advance.

At the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City, she came neither over 100 m nor over 80 m hurdles beyond the first round. In the run-up to the 4 x 100 meter relay , she was disqualified with the Jamaican team.

In 1970 she was at the British Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh seventh in the 100 m hurdles and fifth in the 4-by-100-meter relay ; over 100 m she reached the semi-finals.

Over 100 m hurdles she won bronze at the Central America and Caribbean Championships in 1971 and was fifth at the Pan American Games in 1975 in Mexico City.

In 1966 she was named Jamaica's Sportswoman of the Year .
