Carnidazole is an antibiotic from the nitroimidazole group . In Germany it is approved for the treatment of carrier pigeons against yellow button (infestation with Trichomonas gallinae ), the use in food-producing animals is prohibited. The active ingredient can also be used in other birds to combat trichomonads and Giardia intestinalis . It can also be used for Giardia infections in dogs and cats that do not respond to other active ingredients.
