Carol Kidd

Carol Kidd (born October 19, 1945 in Glasgow ) is a British jazz singer .

Carol Kidd began her career as a singer initially part time while she raised three children and ran a hotel. Her full-time career only began in 1990 when Frank Sinatra invited her to perform with him at the Ibrox Stadium in Glasgow. This was followed by guest appearances such as at London's Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club and the Edinburgh International Jazz Festival . In 1990 she began working with Linn Records , which released her debut album, The Night We Called It a Day , which won the Musical Retailer's Awards for best jazz recording . In 1993 she was in the first episode of the crime series For all cases Fitz , Murder without memory, with the titles "Stormy Weather" and " Summertime " to hear and also seen on the latter song. Kidd was then voted best vocalist at the Cannes International Jazz Awards . In 1998 she received the MBE (Order of the British Empire) for her life's work .

Carol Kidd interprets ballads and standards from the Great American Songbook , but also sings newer tracks such as Randy Newman's "I Think It's Gonna Rain Today" or Jim Croce's "Bad Bad Leroy Brown". In 2008 her album Dreamsville was released .
