Phil Bancroft

Phil Bancroft (born January 29, 1967 in London ) is a British jazz saxophonist.

Live and act

Bancroft came to Scotland with his family at the age of nine. He made his first appearances as a jazz musician with his father, a pianist, and his twin brother, drummer Tom Bancroft . He also performed with guitarist Mike Walker , bassists Reid Anderson and Steve Watts, and drummers Thomas Strønen and Marcello Pellitteri .

The student of George Garzone , David Liebman and Steve Coleman became known as a founding member, musical director and composer of the John Rae Collective in the late 1980s . He also followed John Rae into the group Celtic Feet (with Brian Kellock , bassist Mario Caribé , concertina player Simon Thoumire and fiddle player Eilidh Shaw ). He has also performed with Sun Ra , Tommy Smith and Kenny Wheeler .

In 1994 he founded the trio ABB with his brother and Kevin Mackenzie , with whom he recorded several albums. Since 2002 he has led a quartet with Mike Walker, Reid Anderson and Thomas Strønen. He also works with Reid Anderson, David Berkman and the French musicians group ARFI , performed with Winston Mankunku in Cape Town, accompanied jazz singer Carol Kidd , appeared as a soloist in two suites by Kenny Wheeler with the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra and participated in it a dance project by Iona Kewney .
