Carola Schmidt

Carola Schmidt (* in Horn , Lower Austria) is an international artist living in Berlin, who is primarily active in the fields of film, photography, multimedia and performance. She has also performed under the name Lulu Schmidt since 2012 .

Life

Carola Schmidt played the violin and piano as a child. She received her training at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and the University of the Arts Berlin in the fields of film, photography, multimedia and performance. Her teachers include Erich Lessing , Gabriele Rothemann and most recently Rebecca Horn , with whom she was a master class student until 2007.

Her thesis on film "We ask you, seduce us!" (2008) was presented to the public for the first time in a solo exhibition in the house on Lützowplatz Berlin on 350 m². For this production she received the award for the best newcomer film at the Austrian film festival Diagonale 2008. Invitations from international galleries and film festivals and broadcast dates on WDR and ORF followed.

Carola Schmidt has already been represented with her work at exhibitions in Argentina, Brazil, China, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, Austria, Spain, the Czech Republic, Hungary and the USA.

In addition to her artistic work, she has been working for the art and culture magazine "Eigenart" as an editor and photographer since 2003 and founded the photo and video production company UnidentifiedFlyingVideo for her commercial projects in 2008. This includes music video and stage video productions as well as staged photo sessions for various musicians such as the band MIA. She was also part of the artist collective Tangowerk .

As Lulu Schmidt, she performed at well-known Austrian festivals, such as B. Popfest , Electric Spring and Waves Vienna .
