Tangowerk by Nhoah is the project of the Berlin artist Nhoah . Musical influences from Tango from Buenos Aires and electronic sounds from Berlin characterize the project.
background
The project was inspired by the Tango Argentino in 2005.
During the following five years a total of 14 tracks were developed for the debut album Tangowerk and recorded together with various international artists in Berlin and Buenos Aires. In addition to electro and tango influences, there are also musical themes that are modeled on the sound aesthetics of the 1920s in Berlin.
Most of the recordings took place in the legendary ION studio in Buenos Aires. Astor Piazzolla and Osvaldo Pugliese had already recorded their songs there.
The main novelty on this album, however, is the further processing that took place in Berlin: modular synthesizers, analog sound experiments with gramophones, radios and tape machines and the use of the latest programming technology formed a unique sound image. Nhoah's decades of work with analog synthesizers and programming applications can be heard again.
The participating Argentinian vocalists include tango icon Adriana Varela , singer Walter "Chino" Laborde and Karina Beorlegui, as well as rapper El Topo. There were also singers Mieze Katz , Ina Viola and Lulu Schmidt , who live in Berlin, as well as the Australian performance artist Headvoice and crooner Louie Austen from Vienna. In collaboration with the Berlin Comedian Harmonists , Nhoah's sound ideas from the 1920s are made clear.
String and bandoneon parts were recorded by Charly Pacini, Federico Terranova, Pablo Gignoli, Julio Coviello, Bruno Giuntini, Pablo Jivotovschii and Alfredo Zuccarelli (members of the avant-garde tango orchestra Fernández Fierro). The brass section of the Ed Partyka Jazz Orchestra played the song 1-2-3 .
The entire creative process was accompanied by the video artist Carola Schmidt . She directed the documentary about Tangowerk by Nhoah and six music and dance videos.
In May 2011 the album Tangowerk was released internationally as CD + DVD with 64-page booklet and almost an hour of video material.
After a first appearance in Buenos Aires at the Niceto Club together with the Compañía Inestable des Club69, which served as the basis for the music video for the first single Dancing On The Volcano , others followed in Berlin: at the Japan benefit event Ki.Zuna in the Maria at the Ostbahnhof , at Arte Lounge (first broadcast: December 13, 2011), and in the Babylon cinema on December 15, 2011. This evening combined a one-hour live performance with the cinema premiere of the documentary made by Carola Schmidt about Tangowerk by Nhoah and her award-winning short film We ask you to seduce us!
Tangowerk's latest album Excess All Areas was released in 2014 by ROT Records. The resurrected musical influences of the 1990s, techno, Berlin, party nights in basements, Tangowerks live performances and the daily news about the state of the world have left their mark on it. The formation was expanded to include five other artists: Lulu Schmidt , Ina Viola , Staab , Hajo Rehm and Y3ars . Tours and performances etc. a. in the USA modified performances. Various high-tech applications are used in the live implementation, as well as elaborate costumes and visuals. The Oracle (Dr. Daniel Dahm ) gave rise to the title Alone With Ourselves , which addresses ecological and anthropological sustainability.
