Johannes Daniel Dahm (also J. Daniel Dahm ; * 1969 in Cologne ) is a German activist , entrepreneur , scientist and performer .

education

Daniel Dahm studied geography , biology and ethnology at the University of Cologne with a focus on the ecology of the tropics, climate change and desertification with reference to development cooperation and did his doctorate under Bernd Wiese on sustainable lifestyles and urban subsistence. rer. nat.

Since the 1990s, he has devoted himself to the sustainable development of people and societies and to the overlapping of their economic, spatial and cultural dimensions. Specializing in the interactions between the biogeosphere and the anthroposphere , he particularly looks at the relationships between ecology , human ideas and meanings and their implementation in culture, society and the economy, especially in the financial sector . Further perspectives of his work are on common goods-sensitive ( commons -based) economies and sustainable market dynamics as well as sustainable infrastructures and ecological regional and economic development from the global north to the south.

Since the late 1990s, he has been advocating cultural and ecological change and calling for a revolution of the mind. As a critical initiator, scientist and entrepreneur, he is committed to bringing politics and civil society, economic and financial market players on a consistently sustainable transformation path towards future viability and usefulness.

Daniel Dahm was already in the 1980s in the peace movement active in the subject area sustainability / sustainable development , he was based in 1989, when the journalist and alternative Nobel laureate Robert Jungk him to the Secretariat for Future Studies, an offshoot of the Institute for Future Studies and Technology Assessment , mediated .

After completing his studies, he worked as a research assistant from 1997 to 2005. a. with Wolfgang Sachs and Gerhard Scherhorn , later project manager at the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy . From 2001 to 2004 he headed the BMBF research project Urban Subsistence as the Infrastructure of the City at the Institute for Household and Consumer Economics at the University of Hohenheim . With his dissertation in 2003, he coined the term urban subsistence , which plays a relevant role in the discussion about the commons and economy oriented towards the common good and in the debate critical of growth .

Later he was at various other scientific institutions, including a. also from 2006 to 2007 as Research Fellow for Innovation in Science at the Natural History Museum in London, where he did research on Diversity of Life . Since 2009 he has focused thematically on the connections between finance and ecology and the development of natural and social and cultural commons . Another focus was the focus on the regulatory and regulatory framework for a sustainable competitive order, for which he was a member of the scientific project management until 2013 in the research group Ethical-Ecological Rating at the Goethe University Frankfurt a. Later he was Vice Director of the European Center for Sustainability Research ECS at Zeppelin University until 2018 , as well as a Senior Fellow of the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies .

Furthermore, since 2011 he has been chairman of the jury for the Internorga Future Prize of the Internorga Messe der Hamburg Messe und Congress , a sustainability and innovation prize for the gastronomy, hotel and catering industry, as well as for the baker's and butcher's trade.

As a lecturer, he has contributed internationally with keynotes, impulses and specialist lectures at conferences, meetings and events in academic and university institutions, as well as in politics and civil society. He also initiated conference events on topics related to sustainable development.

Since 2013 he has been working as a singer and songwriter with the musician and producer Nhoah as part of the Tangowerk music project and performs with the techno beat song Alone With Ourselves , a piece about sustainability under the pseudonym The Oracle . With the song he denounces the exceeding of the earth's biocapacity by the ecological footprint of humans and diagnoses humanity with a collectively created psychosis: “ Homo sapiens opposite to its native world, a self-referential tautology of its cosmos. (...) Mankind has entangled itself in an evolutionary trap - bricked in its self-created world of meanings, drifting between self-referential explanations of life and false ideas of co-existence. "He calls for abandoning the old ways of thinking and interpretation and creating a new life-promoting culture:" We are losing our future. Being confronted with a galloping ecological breakdown of the planetary life system, we need a radical turnaround. (...) It is to us to step out of our self-constructed prison, ultimately leaving insanity. (...) Facing and overcoming ourselves, stepping-out, self-empowering us, empowering others in empathy driven by the cry for freedom. Overcoming overshoot by overpowering the principles of accumulation of might and force in the hand of few against most. Forming growth into co-creation, forming power into empowering, leaving the old, releasing ourselves. ”

At the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg he staged the "Hamburger Menetekel. Hamburg" in a production by Christian Tschirner and Ron Zimmering . A futurological congress “in the person of Daniel Dahm presented the prophet Daniel and called for an uprising for a world that serves life.

Dahm is the founder and co-founder of several civil society organizations, foundations and companies.

• In 2013, together with Messe Frankfurt Exhibition GmbH , he initiated a trade fair for design and sustainable consumer goods, the ecostyle in Frankfurt am Main, where he was chairman of the advisory board until 2015.
• In 2011, together with Hamburg Messe und Congress, he was the initiator, co-founder and chairman of the advisory board of the first German-speaking fair for sustainable consumer goods, the goodgoods in Hamburg.
• In 2010 he founded the United Sustainability Group , a group of companies specializing in sustainable development and regenerative economics, which is dedicated to the development and management of cultural and natural potential and a sustainable transformation process of economy, capital investments and regions. The focus is on the development of ecological material assets and ecosystem restoration , e.g. B. sustainable afforestation and renaturation processes. The company advises international foundations and NGOs, investors, companies and financial market players and works together with scientific and civil society institutions and groups of actors.
• In 2010 he was a founding member of Respublica e. V. a platform for participatory policy making.
• In 2009 he was a founding partner of the Desertec Foundation , which represents the international desert electricity project of the same name and wants to bring it to fruition.
• In 2008 he was a founding member of the Ökosoziales Forum Deutschland e. V. (ÖSF), which merged with the Ecological-Social Market Economy Forum (FÖS) in 2013 .
• In 2007 he was together with Rainer Grießhammer , Wolfgang Sachs , Gerhard Scherhorn , Peter Hennicke , Sandra Maischberger and Axel Milberg as well as the founder Claudia Langer, founding member and curator of the utopia foundation of the internet portal Utopia.de for sustainable consumption.
• In 2007 he was a founding member and advisory board member of the amina Foundation in Berlin.
• In 2002 he was co-founder of IRIS e. V. International Research for Integral Systems, an association that accompanied the Cinema for Peace Gala as part of the Berlinale and collected donations from the gala guests with the so-called Peace Band as a charity item. Together with the physicist Hans-Peter Dürr and the philosopher Rudolf zur Lippe, Dahm was co-author of the Potsdam Manifesto 2005 and the Potsdam Memorandum , which were published by the Association of German Scientists as part of the Einstein Year 2005, following the Russell Einstein Manifesto of 1955 .
