Mohssen Massarrat

Mohssen Massarrat (born May 14, 1942 in Tehran , Iran ) is a professor emeritus for politics and economics at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Osnabrück with a research focus on the Near and Middle East , energy , peace and conflict research, and North-South conflict . He was born in Iran and has lived in the Federal Republic of Germany since 1961. Massarrat was a liaison professor of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation and the Heinrich Böll Foundation , and has been a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of Attac Germany since 2002 .

Professional career

Massarrat moved to Germany in 1961 , where he studied the German language and completed internships in various industrial and mining companies . From 1962 to 1967 he studied mining in Clausthal-Zellerfeld and at the Technical University of Berlin . He completed his studies with a degree in engineering . After graduating, he studied economics and political science at the Technical University of Berlin and at the Free University of Berlin (FU) . In 1974 he was awarded a Dr. rer. pole. PhD.

From 1974/75 he was a research assistant in the political science department of the Free University of Berlin. After the class he moved to the University of Osnabrück, where he worked as a research assistant for seven years. In 1978 he completed his habilitation in economics / international economic relations. From 1982 Massarrat was Professor of Political Science in the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Osnabrück. From April 2000 to October 2001 he was Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, from October 2001 to March 2004 Pro-Dean of the University of Osnabrück. He retired after the 2007/08 winter semester.

Research priorities

Massarrat mainly deals with issues of political economy , including socio-ecological economy, sustainable development, democracy and international economic relations / globalization .
