Alois Heißenhuber

Alois Heißenhuber (* 1948 ) is a German agricultural economist .

Life

Heißenhuber completed his studies in agricultural sciences at the Technical University of Munich Weihenstephan from 1970 to 1974, whereby he was a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation from 1972 to 1974. From 1974 to 1975 he completed a supplementary course in education and psychology , also at the Technical University of Munich. After the legal clerkship in the civil service from 1974 to 1976, the state examination followed in 1976.

After three years as a teacher , he returned in 1979 as a research assistant at the Department of Economics of agriculture of the Technical University of Munich back. In 1982 Heißenhuber obtained his doctorate in agricultural sciences.

Since 1988 he has been to Japan several times for study visits . His habilitation followed in 1989 . From 1996 to 2013 Heißenhuber was a full professor of the Chair of Agriculture Economics at the Technical University of Munich.

Functions and memberships

Heißenhuber was Dean of Studies at the Faculty of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences at the Weihenstephan Science Center ( TU Munich ) until the end of 2007 . From 2003 to 2013 he was a member of the Scientific Advisory Board for Agricultural Policy and from 2007 to 2014 a member of the Advisory Board for Biodiversity and Genetic Resources of the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection (BMELV; Bonn / Berlin) and head of the Scientific Board of Trustees of the Bavarian Academy for Rural Areas . Heßenhuber is also represented on the “Editorial Board” of Agricultural Economics magazine in Prague . From 2016 to 2019, Heißenhuber was Chairman of the Agriculture Commission at the Federal Environment Agency (Germany) .

Research focus

As an agricultural economist, Alois Heißenhuber focuses on the following three subject areas:

  • Process optimization taking into account economic and ecological criteria (development, testing and economic assessment of agricultural production processes in the field of plant and animal production as well as renewable energies with special consideration of the effects on the ecosystem)
  • Business optimization under changed framework conditions (development of strategies to secure the competition of agricultural businesses, production cost analysis, cross-company and inter-company cooperation, competitive position in international comparison)
  • Sustainable development of rural areas (quantification of external effects of agriculture, analysis of agricultural policy measures with regard to the consequences for rural areas - policy impact assessment)

honors and awards

In 1987 he was awarded the Thurn and Taxis Prize for Agriculture. In 2003 he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Thracian University of Stara Zagora in Bulgaria . In 2008 he received the Dr. Hans Eisenmann Medal from the VLM (Association of Agricultural Masters and Trainers in Bavaria). In 2010, Heißenhuber received the renowned Hans Kudlich Prize (Eco-Social Forum Austria). In 2012, Heißenhuber was awarded the Goddess Gaia Prize by the Czech University of Agriculture for his long-term commitment and in autumn 2013 he received the state medal in silver from the Bavarian State Ministry for Food, Agriculture and Forestry . On June 12, 2015, he was awarded the Johann Heinrich von Thünen Medal in gold by the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel. On May 4, 2014 he was awarded the Max Schönleutner Medal by the Max Schönleutner Society Weihenstephan (MSGW). The award of the nature conservation medal by the BUND Naturschutz in Bayern eV took place on February 23, 2018.
