Caroline Jönsson (born November 22, 1977 in Lund ) is a former Swedish football goalkeeper . In her career she played for LdB FC Malmö and Umeå IK in Damallsvenskan , Sweden's highest league, and for the Chicago Red Stars in the US women 's professional soccer league . She was also the goalkeeper of the Swedish national team for many years .

Caroline Jönsson grew up as the daughter of a farmer and a riding instructor in Sövestad in southern Sweden , where she started playing football at the age of six. She moved to Malmö FF in 1996 through the Veberöds IF association . In the very first season she won the first of a total of seven runner-up championships with her club. In 1997 she won the Swedish Cup with Malmö . In 2009 she moved from LdB FC Malmö to the United States for the Chicago Red Stars, for which she completed 20 games. After a season she returned to Sweden and received a contract with the first division club Umeå IK. With this club she ended her career in 2013.

National team

Jönsson made his debut in 1999 for the Swedish national team. In 2001 she became vice European champion and two years later vice world champion. Both times the team lost to Germany by golden goal . After the 2004 Olympic Games , she temporarily lost her regular place in the national team to Hedvig Lindahl . In autumn 2005, she fought her way back between the posts. In 2009 she resigned from the national team. Jönsson played a total of 80 international matches.
