Princess Caroline Mathilde of Denmark , the full name was Caroline-Mathilde Louise Dagmar Christiane Maud Augusta Ingeborg Thyra Adelheid , (born  April 27, 1912 at Jaegersborghus in Gentofte ; † December 12, 1995 at Sorgefri Castle in Lyngby near Copenhagen ) was hereditary princess by marriage from Denmark .

Caroline Mathilde, her nickname was "Calma", was the second eldest daughter of Prince Harald of Denmark and his wife Princess Helena of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg . She married her first cousin Prince Canute of Denmark on September 8, 1933 at Fredensborg Palace . He was the younger son of the then Danish King Christian X and his wife Alexandrine von Mecklenburg-Schwerin .

In Denmark there was male succession to the throne and her brother-in-law Frederik had three daughters when he became king in 1947. Prince Knut therefore assumed the position of Hereditary Prince and Caroline Mathilde that of Hereditary Princess from 1947. In 1953 the Danish parliament changed the rules of succession and made it possible for Princess Margrethe to be succeeded . Knut and Caroline Mathilde were no longer the heir to the throne couple. During her marriage and until her death, Caroline Mathilde lived at Sorgefri Castle in Lyngby near Copenhagen. She also inherited Egelund Castle and the royal summer residence of Klitgården from Queen Alexandrine together with her husband .

Caroline Mathilde was the recipient of the Elephant Order , the highest honor in Denmark.
