The purple fruit Bug ( Carpocoris purpureipennis ) is a bug from the family of stink bugs (Pentatomidae).

features

The brownish to deep reddish brown colored bugs are 11-14 mm long. The corners of the pronotum are curved slightly backwards and the outer shoulder areas are black. The scutellum has a step and a light brown tip. The connexive (the sides of the abdomen) has a beige-dark brown pattern. The first antenna segment is brown while the three outer ones are colored black. The legs are red.

Similar species

distribution and habitat

The species occurs in large parts of Europe. Their distribution area extends in the north to central Sweden. Meadows and field borders are part of their habitat.

Way of life

The purple fruit bug can be observed from April to September. The forage plants include umbelliferae ( Apiaceae ), daisy family ( Asteraceae ). The eggs are laid on the upper side of the leaves of various herbaceous plants. The bug species goes through five nymph stages.
