Carsten Kengeter

Carsten Kengeter (born March 31, 1967 in Heilbronn ) is a German manager . He was CEO of Deutsche Börse AG .

Life

Professional background

Carsten Kengeter completed his studies at the University of Applied Sciences Reutlingen as a Diploma in Business Administration ( FH ab). He also holds a BA in Business Administration from Middlesex University in London and an MSc in Finance and Accounting from the London School of Economics and Political Science. He began his professional career in 1992 in credit derivatives trading at Barclays de Zoete Wedd Ltd. in London. From 1997 to 2008 he was Managing Director and Partner at Goldman Sachs . There he was both Co-Head of the Securities Division for Asia (ex Japan) and Co-Head of European Fixed Income, Currencies and Commodities. In 2008 he moved to UBS as Co-Head Fixed Income , Currencies and Commodities , where he was a member of the Group Executive Board and Chairman and CEO of UBS Investment Bank from 2009 to 2012. Since 2013, Kengeter has been visiting professor in the Department of Finance at the London School of Economics and Political Science .

Kengeter has been a member of the Management Board of Deutsche Börse AG since April 2015, and Chairman of the Management Board since June 2015. He is a member of the governing bodies of several international organizations, such as China Europe International Exchange AG and b-to-v Partner AG. In addition, he is Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Circuitus Capital LLP, Director of FNZ Group Ltd. as well as member of the Advisory Board of the Financial Markets Group, the Systemic Risk Center of the London School of Economics and Political Science and member of the Fixed Income Currencies Commodities Markets Standards Board.

In February 2017, investigations by the Frankfurt am Main public prosecutor into insider trading against Kengeter became known. This involves the purchase of 60,000 shares in its own company, which Kengeter had acquired in December 2015 two months before the announcement of the planned merger with the London Stock Exchange . In October 2017, after an extraordinary meeting of the Supervisory Board, Deutsche Börse announced that Kengeter would be leaving the company on December 31, 2017. The public prosecutor's office had previously resumed the investigation on suspicion of insider trading after the Frankfurt am Main district court had not agreed to suspend the proceedings against a monetary requirement of EUR 500,000. Kengeter's contract would have expired at the end of March 2018. Theodor Weimer was his successor .

Carsten Kengeter was born as the only child of Christel and Rainer Kengeter in Heilbronn. He grew up in the district of Neckarwestheim , where he also attended elementary school.

He is married and has three children.
