Theodor Weimer
Theodor Weimer (born December 21, 1959 in Wertheim ) is a German manager and has been CEO of Deutsche Börse AG since January 1, 2018 . Before that, from January 2009 to the end of 2017 he was spokesman for the management board of Unicredit Bank AG (Germany) - known under the brand name "HypoVereinsbank" - and in this role also a member of the Executive Management Committee of the Unicredit Group , Milan ( Italy ).
Education and personal
Theodor Weimer did his Abitur at the business school of the vocational school center Wertheim. He then studied economics , business administration and geography at the University of Tübingen ( Germany ). As part of his studies, he spent a guest semester at the University of St. Gallen ( Switzerland ). After graduating Theodor Weimer worked as an assistant at the Department of Horst Albach at the University of Bonn (Germany), where he and his doctorate in mathematical theory of organization wrote and in 1987 for Dr. rer. pole. with the award "magna cum laude" doctorate was.
Born in Franconia, he is married and has two daughters. He plays the piano and was trained to play the organ.
Career
Weimer started his professional career immediately after completing his dissertation in 1988 at McKinsey & Company as a management consultant in the Düsseldorf (Germany) office. In 1995 he moved to competitor Bain & Company, Inc. in Munich (Germany), where he was most recently Director (Senior Partner) and was appointed to the Global Management Committee in Boston (USA). As a management consultant, Weimer has looked after clients from the financial sector in particular. Between 2001 and 2007, Theodor Weimer worked at Goldman Sachs Inc. in Frankfurt (Germany) in their investment banking division. He began as a Managing Director and was promoted to Partner in Investment Banking in 2004. He was responsible for financial services customers in German-speaking countries.
In June 2007 Theodor Weimer moved to the Unicredit Group and worked at its subsidiary, HypoVereinsbank, in Munich (Germany), as Head of Global Investment Banking in the Markets & Investment Banking division. Since joining the Unicredit Group, he has also been a member of the Executive Committee for Markets & Investment Banking of the Milan-based group. In April 2008, the bank appointed him designated spokesman for the board of Bayerische Hypo- und Vereinsbank AG . Theodor Weimer took over the position of spokesman for the board of directors of HypoVereinsbank (since December 15, 2009: Unicredit Bank AG) from the outgoing board spokesman Wolfgang Sprissler and in this context moved to the management committee of Unicredit Milan (Italy) as Country Chairman Germany on. In 2010, Theodor Weimer initiated the establishment of the HVB Women's Council, of which he was the patron until 2017. In 2011, Weimer was appointed to the Group's Business Executive Committee and in March 2013 to the Executive Management Committee of Unicredit.
On January 1, 2018, Weimer took over as CEO of Deutsche Börse AG from Carsten Kengeter .
