Dieter Rampl

Dieter Rampl (born September 5, 1947 in Munich ) is a German - Austrian bank manager.

Origin, education and personal information

After his birth in Munich he lived with his family in Schwaz (Austria) until he was six years old. After the early death of his mother, Dieter Rampl grew up partly with his grandparents on a farm in Tyrol, but then returned to Munich, where he also went to school. He kept his Austrian passport.

He completed his apprenticeship as a banker in 1966 at what was then Bayerische Vereinsbank . He studied business administration in evening classes.

Rampl is married and has one son.

Career

After working in foreign trade at Bayerische Vereinsbank, he worked for Société de Banque Suisse in Geneva from 1969 to 1971 . In 1971 he returned to Bayerische Vereinsbank AG and worked in Munich, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt and New York. The move to BHF-Bank took place in 1983. There he managed a. a. the North America business and was active in Frankfurt and New York. He moved to the Board of Directors of Charterhouse London in 1994. In 1995 he was appointed to the board of directors of Bayerische Vereinsbank AG with responsibility for corporate banking. After the merger with Bayerische Hypotheken- und Wechselbank in 1998, he was a member of the Management Board of HVB Group and was appointed spokesman for the Management Board of HVB Group in 2003.

After the merger with the Italian company Unicredit was announced in May 2005, he became Chairman of the Board of Directors of the new Unicredit Group on January 1, 2006 .

Shortly after the resignation of Alessandro Profumo in September 2010, Rampl was CEO and tasked with looking for a successor. After Federico Ghizzoni was nominated as the new CEO, Rampl returned to his role as Chairman of the Board of Directors. He held this post until his resignation in May 2012.
