Life
Alessandro Profumo was the youngest of five sons in an entrepreneurial family. He spent his childhood in Palermo until he was 13 and moved to Milan with his parents in 1970 .
He completed his studies in economics at the Università Commerciale Luigi Bocconi in Milan and graduated in 1987 with a degree in business administration .

When RAS acquired a 5% stake in the recently privatized Credito Italiano and then the second largest Italian bank at the time , Alessandro Profumo first took over the seat on the bank's board of directors as Condirettore Centrale ( Deputy General Manager ) for strategic corporate planning and control One year later as Director General ( Chief General Manager ). He was appointed Amministratore Delegato ( Chief Executive Officer - CEO) in 1997, making him the youngest head of a major Italian bank at the age of 40 .
Under his leadership, the UniCredit Group has developed into one of the most profitable banks in Italy and one of the largest banking groups in Europe after a number of acquisitions and restructurings . The owners of the UniCredit Group confirmed Profumo in 2009 with the extension of his term of office.
During his time as CEO, the manager has held other offices in the financial services industry to this day : since 2002 he has been a member of the Board of Directors of Mediobanca SpA, a subsidiary of the UniCredit Group . In 2007 he resigned from his supervisory board mandate at Deutsche Börse AG due to the threat of a conflict of interest between his mandate in Frankfurt and the role of the bank as a major shareholder of the new London-Milan stock exchange .
