Carsten Meyer (born July 15, 1961 in Ehra-Lessien ) is a German politician ( Alliance 90 / The Greens ). From 2009 to 2014 he was a member of the Thuringian State Parliament .

Career

Meyer passed the Abitur at the Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium in Wolfsburg in 1980, studied social sciences in Göttingen from 1980 to 1985 and graduated with a degree in social economics . From 1987 to 1989 he was a research fellow at the Institute for Regional Research, Göttingen.

From 1976 Meyer became involved in the anti-nuclear power movement and in an alternative city newspaper. He was active as a local politician in Göttingen and was a member of the city council for the local green alternative list from 1989 to 1992.

In the 2009 election in Thuringia , Meyer moved up to 6th place on the state list in the state parliament. As a direct candidate in the Weimar constituency , he achieved the best constituency result of his party in the state with 17.2% of the votes. Carsten Meyer represented his parliamentary group in the committees for budget and finance, for justice and the constitution and for Europe until 2014. He was the media policy spokesman for his group.

Meyer is chairman of the Pro Familia regional association for Thuringia .

In 2012 he ran for the office of Lord Mayor in Weimar and achieved the best result of Alliance 90 / The Greens in the independent cities of Thuringia with 12.2%. 2001–2010 and 2014–2016 he was a member of the Weimar City Council.

Since 2016 he has been the educational director of the rural adult education in Lower Saxony eV and for this on the board of the Lower Saxony federal government for free adult education.
