Carsten Sinner

Carsten Sinner (born February 4, 1971 in Gedern ) is a German linguist and translation scholar. He teaches as a university professor for Ibero-Romance language and translation studies at the Institute for Applied Linguistics and Translatology at the University of Leipzig .

Life

Carsten Sinner was born in Gedern, Hesse, in 1971. After graduating from high school in 1990, he studied sociology at the Technical University of Berlin until 1993 and from 1991 to 1996 diploma translation for Spanish and Portuguese at the Humboldt University in Berlin . There was also a partial course in interpreting and translation at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (1993–1994), an additional course in German as a foreign language (1995–1997) and a basic course in German linguistics (1995–1997). In 1997 Sinner completed his studies with a diploma thesis on the subject of phonetic-phonological, morphosyntactic and lexical peculiarities of the variety of Castilian in Catalonia: interference, frequency and acceptability . He received his PhD in 2002Gerda Haßler at the University of Potsdam with a dissertation on El castellano de Cataluña. Aspectos cualitativos y cuantitativos . Until 2007 he worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Romance Studies at the Humboldt University in Berlin, after which he took over the substitute professorship for Ibero-Romance language and translation studies at the Institute for Applied Linguistics and Translatology at the University of Leipzig. Since 2008 he has been a university professor for Ibero-Romance language and translation studies there. In addition to his academic work and teaching, Carsten Sinner works as a freelance translator and interpreter.
