The Carter Peak is a 1,932 m high mountain in the East Antarctic Mac Robertson Land . In the Prince Charles Mountains, it rises 1.5 km west of Mount Bensley and 15 km southwest of Mount Starlight .
Aerial photographs and surveys as part of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions from 1955 to 1965 were used to map it. The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia (ANCA) named it on August 10, 1966 after David Bruce Carter, chief electrical engineer at Mawson Station in 1965.
