The Casa del Fascio (House of the Fascists) is located in the city of Kos on the island of Kos ( Dodecanese ). The building dominates the Platia Eleftherias . The building was erected in the 1930s by the Italian occupying forces and housed the fascist party .

From the balcony of this building the return of the Dodecanese islands to Greece was announced on May 7, 1948. On the east side of the balcony of the tower there is an inscription in Greek in memory of this event.

building

The house of the fascists ( Casa del Fascio in Italian ), located on Platia Eleftherias and dominating this square to this day, was built during the Italian occupation of the islands . The style can also be found in the Archaeological Museum and a little less in the market hall on this square, as well as in the town house on Platia Agias Paraskevis or in the Governor's Palace of Kos at the port of Kos . The same applies to the Linopoti Historical Administrative Center in Linopotis . The style of these buildings is indicative of the architectural style of the period from 1923 to 1943 of the Italian occupation of the Dodecanese islands. The style of the architecture was adapted according to the ideas of the new rulers and cleaned of "oriental influences" and carried out based on the Roman Empire in connection with fascist "ideals".

The building is about 10 meters above sea level, it is about 30 meters long and 17 meters wide. The building still houses a cinema (called Orfeas or Orpheas) and restaurants.

inscription

Commemorative inscription on the occasion of the annexation of the island of Kos to Greece on May 7, 1948

On the left side of the inscription is an excerpt from the text of the Greek national anthem :

Απ τα κόκκαλα βγαλμένη
των Ελλήνων τα ιερά,
και σαν πρώτα ανδρειωμένη,
χαίρε, ω! χαίρε,
Ελευθεριά!

The bones sprouted from
the Greeks, the holy ones ( sc. Bones) ,
and, as in the past, brave,
be greeted, o be greeted
freedom!
