The company in Lauenau, associated with the name of the manufacturer and entrepreneur Carl Sasse (1892–1956), was founded in the middle of the First World War in 1917 and initially produced wooden shoe soles. Stood by Casala is an abbreviation of Ca rl Sa sse La uenau .

After the war, the company initially expanded its range to include wooden furniture, and later to include upholstered and metal furniture.

In the 1950s, the company made a name for itself primarily with its school furniture, but also with wooden toys and toys . The Casalino , a one-piece plastic chair, was created in 1975 based on designs by Alexander Begge (* 1941).

At the end of the 1960s, the Casala works employed around 1,000 people and exported mainly to the Benelux countries, Switzerland and Austria, Sweden and the USA. The subsidiary companies at the time were the Süddeutsches Casala-Werk GmbH in Neu-Ulm and the Lima upholstery factory Grönemeyer & Co. in Rodenberg am Deister .

After changing hands several times in the 1980s and 1990s, the Lauenau parent plant had to file for bankruptcy in 2001 . As a result, the factory was owned by Casala Meubelen in Culemborg in the Netherlands .

Eventually, the rights to the Casala brand became the property of Paul and Frank van der Winkel. The two entrepreneurs, who at the beginning of the 21st century had their products in more than 25 countries, concentrated on the quick handling and flexible use of their furniture, sometimes through technical innovations.

At the original production site in Lauenau, today's Casala Objektmöbel GmbH maintains "still today an office and showroom" at Magirusstrasse 16 .
