Casali is a brand of the Austrian confectionery manufacturer Manner . It goes back to a company of the same name that was taken over by Manner in 1970. Since then, Manner has been selling chocolate bananas, rum pralines and other sweets under the name Casali.

history

The roots of the Casali company go back to 1792. It was then that Joseph Casali founded the company in Trieste that produced rosolio (rose (blossom) liqueur), rum and punch . Casali spirits and liqueurs were sold throughout the monarchy. In 1804 the son Julian Casali took over a company that was already known throughout the empire and also supplied the Austrian imperial court.

During the French wars at the beginning of the 19th century, the economic situation in Trieste worsened, so that Julian Casali asked Emperor Franz I to move the entire company to Vienna in 1810 . After the approval, Casali built a new production facility in Vienna at today's Margaretenstraße 91.

In 1863 the company became the property of the nephew Joseph Coloquatti. He named the company in “J. Casalis Nephew ”.

In 1913 the company was sold to Adolf Beer. He and his three sons successfully led the company through the First World War . The Beer family expanded production to include confectionery products. This is how the well-known chocolate bananas and other sweets were made.

In 1935 the company moved to a larger company building in Favoriten . The production program included waffles , biscuits and candy boxes .

After the "Anschluss" , Casali was Aryanized . During the Second World War , the factories on Laxenburger Strasse were badly damaged by bombs.

After the end of the war, the company was returned to the Beer family. But after the family had already built a new confectionery factory in Venezuela , the Austrian company was sold. In 1955 it was bought by Franz Andres, who had founded the Napoli company in 1948 , and the companies merged. This made Casali-Napoli the second largest confectionery manufacturer in Austria after Manner.

Liqueur specialties and brandies as well as alcoholic sweets were still produced. The famous Mozart balls were also made by Casali.

In 1970, the Casali-Napoli company was bought by Manner, making the group Austria's market leader.
