Casein kinases

Casein kinases are a group of enzymes from the group of protein kinases .

Representative

Casein kinases are serine / threonine protein kinases . They are divided into two subtypes, casein kinase I and casein kinase II . Type I casein kinases include the isoforms of casein kinases I alpha, beta 1, gamma 1, gamma 2, gamma 3, delta and epsilon. They are involved in the Wnt signaling pathway , the circadian rhythm , the regulation of the nuclear localization of transcription factors , DNA repair and transcription . Type II casein kinases are involved in the Wnt signaling pathway and include e.g. B. the casein kinase II alpha 1, alpha 2 and beta.

Casein kinase 1-alpha is the molecular target of lenalidomide , which leads to its ubiquitination and is therefore particularly effective in myelodysplastic syndrome with 5q deletion (del [5q]).
