François Casimir Dudevant (born July 6, 1795 in Pompiey , † 1871 ) was a French nobleman and lieutenant in the Grande Armée .

Life

Dudevant was the illegitimate son of Baron Jean-François Dudevant and his mistress Augustine Soulé. In 1813 he attended the military academy in Saint-Cyr-l'École . He then served in the army until he left it in 1822 with the rank of lieutenant.

On December 10, 1822, Dudevant married in Paris Aurore Dupin de Francueil, who became famous under her pseudonym George Sand . With her Dudevant had two children: Maurice Sand (1823-1899) and Solange (1828-1899). He lived with his family on their estate (today: Maison de George Sand ) near Nohant-Vic ( Département Indre ).

His wife separated from him in 1831 after violent arguments. She had found his will and thus learned what he thought of women in general and of her in particular. In 1836 she divorced him.
