Caspar Arnold Engel

Caspar Arnold Gotthold Johann Engel (* 1798 in Husum ; † October 24, 1863 in Altona ) was a German politician , interim Landdrost ( district administrator ) of the Pinneberg rule and a member of the Frankfurt National Assembly .

Life

He was born in Husum and studied law. After his exams , Engel was secretary at the Gottorf office and on June 14, 1825, secretary at the Schleswig Higher Court at Gottorf Castle . There he was on August 26, 1834 5th councilor at the higher court. On July 28, 1840, Engel became a knight of the Dannebrog Order and budget councilor. In 1846, after the downsizing of the Gottorf government, he was sent to pensions with a waiting allowance. In 1847 he successfully applied for a political mandate and became a member of the Schleswig assembly of estates . In 1848 Engel was appointed by the Provisional Government in Kiel as an interim Landdrost of the Pinneberg rule as the Danish King Christian VIII lost power in the duchies during the Schleswig-Holstein uprising in 1848 . However, Engel soon moved into the Frankfurt National Assembly as the elected MP for Altona . From 1851 he lived in Altona, where he died on October 24, 1863 at the age of 65.

As an author, he wrote several essays and various articles in several daily newspapers.
