Residential building, Straße der Jugend 105

Caspar Gewerbehof is the historicizing name for the monument ensemble Straße der Jugend 105 / Taubenstraße 4 in Cottbus , consisting of a residential building and several commercial buildings. It is an example of a completely preserved industrial complex and a testament to the work of the traditional Cottbus forwarding company Casper & Co.

Residential building

The building permit for the villa-like house was granted in 1888/89 to the Cottbus construction company Paul Broeßke. The commercial development behind it on Taubenstrasse with a residential, office and warehouse building was used by the Casper & Michovius forwarding business as early as 1866. In 1903 the forwarding company Paul and Thiele took over this property.

The originally free-standing residential building is located on the west side of what was then Dresdner Straße (today's Straße der Jugend). The entrance to the house on the north side is reached via a two-flight staircase set in a risalit . It is located in the area of the entrance to the industrial park, which is paved with cobblestones. The iron gate from the construction period with two large fence wings is still intact, as is the one in Taubenstrasse, which is, however, less decorative. The facade on the street side is determined by the central projection with the balcony bay in front , which has a vaulted wrought iron balcony parapet. A three-part window front adorned with tendrils can be seen under the balcony, the lower edge of which is also adorned with leaf decoration and cartouches . The different floor divisions are structured by plaster strips , cornices and building corners. The window shapes from the construction period also vary from storey to storey, the lower and upper storeys are decorated more sparingly. The middle floor, the owner's floor, can be clearly recognized by the richly decorated windows and the segmental arches . The north side has already been restored and the various plaster squares, cornices and building corners have been preserved due to the monument protection requirements. The rear facade of the house in simple architecture was designed more modern, so balconies have been attached here. The house with its baroque forms ends with a towering monopitch roof over the floor plan typical of the time.

Commercial yard development

Business park, Taubenstrasse 4

Behind the villa-like residential building is the former single-storey stable and coach house with fodder floor, where offices are now housed after extensive renovation. The two-and-a-half-storey warehouse, with the gable side facing Taubenstrasse, is a red exposed brick building with pilaster strips and sill cornices that span over several floors as well as an attic storey . The segment-arched wall cuts on the doors and windows were loading and ventilation hatches. The one and a half-story building to the north of the commercial entrance was the residential and office building ; after a fire in 1928 it was rebuilt on the cellar walls. One of the oldest storage cellars in Cottbus has been preserved.
