Cast of Thousands is a music album by the English rock band Elbow .

Music genre

In addition to the classic instruments of rock groups, Elbow also use rather unusual elements such as a gospel choir (in “Ribcage”), singing crowds (in “Grace Under Pressure”) and a barking dog. Many songs are described as bombastic.

History of origin

The album takes its name from an event at the 2002 Glastonbury Festival where Elbow performed. During one performance, the audience sang by the thousands the line of text “ We still believe in love, so fuck you ” (German: “ We still believe in love, so piss off”) from the song Grace Under Pressure . This event was so formative for Elbow that they even collected as many of the singers of the time as possible on the Internet in order to mention them in the album's booklet. In fact, several hundred names are listed as the background for the text in the booklet.

The recordings for the album took 9 months.

On the cover of the album there are two characters named "Elle" and "Bo" who speak together like the group name.

The album is the band's first to reach the top ten in the UK. No chart positions were achieved in other countries.
