history

The company was founded in 1906 by Jean-Pierre Wassermann near Lausanne . It manufactured products for low temperature maintenance welding. The son of the company founder, Professor René Wassermann, founded the Eutectic Welding Alloys Corporation in New York City in 1930 .

The shortage of raw materials associated with the Second World War led to the increasing importance of maintenance welding. After the end of the war, the company expanded in 1950 by establishing international subsidiaries and production sites. In 1960 the CastoLabs® (Service Workshops) were launched, Castolin and Eutectic combined their business activities under the brand name Castolin + Eutectic.

The company's headquarters were relocated to St. Sulpice near Lausanne in 1978. In 2000 the companies Castolin + Eutectic and Messer Cutting & Welding (a subsidiary of the Messer Group ) were merged to form MEC Holding GmbH, with the Carlyle Group holding a majority stake, and the Carlyle Group's shares were sold to Messer Industrie Holding GmbH after five years . The company Castolin Eutectic expanded in 2007 to new markets in Eastern Europe and Asia and opened ten new branches there. In 2020, Messer sold Castolin Eutectic in full to Paragon Partners .
