Together with two hired accomplices, the hot-blooded driver Skip Kovich and the family man Jorge Montana, they rob a jewelry store in Palm Springs . The plan works completely, but shortly afterwards Lee and Montana are killed by Kovich. Roy is injured, flees and hides with Rachel Montana, Jorge's widow. She helps him to get his revenge.

Reviews

James Berardinelli wrote on ReelViews that the production company - if it wanted to be successful - should produce more interesting films than this "clichéd" thriller. The film borrows from the other heist and revenge films, has a "stale" plot and stereotypical characters. Berardinelli criticized the portrayal of Stephen Dorff, who lacks any charisma. The only positive thing is the fast pace, but that is not a sufficient reason to see the film.

Cinema wrote that the film was a "sparse, brutal big-city western".

TV Movie 11/1998 wrote that the film was "staged without any rough edges" and that it lacks tension. The editors scoffed that some night scenes wouldn't turn the film into film noir . Only the portrayal of Harvey Keitel was praised.

Awards

John Irvin was nominated in 1997 for a prize at the International Mystery Film Festival of Cattolica in the category of Best Film .

background

The film was shot in various locations in California , especially Los Angeles . Production costs were estimated at 8 million US dollars . The film grossed approximately $ 1.5 million in US cinemas.
