Catherine Hiegel (born December 10, 1946 ) is a French actress .

Life

Catherine Hiegel is a major stage actress in France. She is a member of the Comédie-Française and worked under Dario Fo and Patrice Chéreau , among others . In 2007 she received for her part in le Retour au désert the renowned French theater prize Molière as best supporting actress .

In Germany she is best known for Étienne Chatiliez 's Life is a long, calm river (1988): Spurned by her lover ( Daniel Gélin ), she exchanges two babies of different social origins as Josette's nurse and in the end enjoys her revenge. Other film successes include Pierre Granier-Deferre's Drowning Forbidden (1987), Luc Béraud's Beloved One Does n't Borrow (1988), Josiane Balasko's My Life Is Hell (1991), Tout le monde n'a pas eu la chance d'avoir des parents communistes (1992), A Woman for Two (1995) and especially Jean-Jacques Zilbermann's Jewish gay comedy Men Are Only Women (1998).
