Catherine S. Fowler

Catherine Sweeney "Kay" Fowler (* 1940 ) is an American anthropologist and professor emeritus at the University of Nevada in Reno . She did research for the Nevada State Museum in Carson City and the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History .

Catherine Fowler earned a Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh in 1972. in anthropology. Catherine Fowler and her husband, Don Fowler, were founding members of the anthropology department at the University of Nevada in Reno in 1964 and remained there until their respective retirement - Don Fowler in 2005 and Catherine Fowler in 2007.

The Fowlers explored the Indians of the Great Basin and made a contribution to the territorial and cultural restoration of the Shoshone and the northern and southern Paiute .

In 1995, Catherine Fowler received the Outstanding Researcher Award from the University of Nevada, Reno . The Great Basin: People and Place in Ancient Times , edited by Don and Catherine Fowler, received a New Mexico Book Award in 2009 . In 2011, Catherine Fowler was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences .

At the University of Utah in Salt Lake City one is Don D. and Catherine S. Fowler Prize awarded for outstanding anthropological monographs. Don and Catherine Fowler are on the jury.
