Catholic News Agency (CNA) is a Roman Catholic news agency . Its headquarters are in Denver , Colorado . A German edition of the publications appears as CNA Deutsch . According to its own statements, the CNA was founded “to respond to the call of Pope Pope John Paul II and his successors for a new evangelization”.

Founded in 2004, the Catholic News Agency claims to be one of the fastest growing Roman Catholic news services in the English-speaking world. CNA provides up-to-date news about the Roman Catholic Church, free to the user, including testimony from the Pope and current events in the Holy See .

CNA is a sister agency of ACI Prensa. This was founded in 1980 in Lima, Peru, by Father Adalbert Maria Mohn (d. 1986). The German missionary wanted to provide the media and people with a source that delivers Catholic news in order to improve the visibility of the Catholic Church in public and to help her in the mission.

Today, ACI Prensa claims to be the world's largest provider of web-based Roman Catholic news in Spanish and Portuguese.

The Catholic News Agency is headed by the Peruvian journalist Alejandro Bermúdez, who is responsible for both CNA and ACI Prensa. He received his training in social communication at the University of Lima. In addition to his role as Head of CNA and ACI Prensa, he is the Latin America correspondent for the US publications “Our Sunday Visitor”, “National Catholic Register” and the Spanish magazine “Razón y Fe”.

In keeping with their mandate to spread Catholic news for free, the CNA and ACI Prensa are funded almost entirely by donations.

The website is owned and operated by EWTN News, Inc. , a US-based non-profit organization that supports the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) .

CNA German editorial staff

The news agency has had a German-language edition since October 2015. The editor-in-chief of CNA Deutsch is the journalist Anian Christoph Wimmer . Rudolf Gehrig has been the chief correspondent for German-speaking Europe since October 2019 .
