Catores

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Catores ( Ladin for stone fowl ) are a climbing guild from Val Gardena ( South Tyrol ). The Catores are active both as mountain guides in the alpine school of the same name and in the mountain rescue service in the Val Gardena branch.

The association was founded almost simultaneously with the local mountain rescue in 1955 in Ortisei . The founding members, all of whom were experienced alpinists, were Batista Vinatzer , Zenz Nocker, Flavio Pancheri, Otto Senoner, Norbert Prinoth, Filipp Prinoth, Oscar Mutschlechner, Franz Runggaldier and Edi Stuflesser.

In order to be allowed to join the association, one must be a member of the mountain rescue service Val Gardena and have significant alpine achievements. All active Catores decide whether a member has the necessary requirements to be accepted into the group. Many members developed into alpinists of an exceptional level who were able to record numerous undertakings with the highest degree of difficulty, including in the Dolomites , in the Western Alps , in the Himalayas and in the Andes .

Together with 16 other mountain rescue teams, mainly from the Ladin area of the Dolomites, the Catores form the non-profit association Aiut Alpin Dolomites , which has a rescue helicopter and is one of the most important and well-known organizations for air rescue in the Dolomites.

You can recognize the Catores by their gray sweater and the symbol depicted on it: a climbing hook , which is framed by a rope.
