Cats Falck

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Maureen Cathryn Harriet "Cats" Falck (born July 11, 1953 in Enskede , Sweden, † probably November 19, 1984 in Hammarbyleden , Sweden) was a Swedish television journalist.

She worked for the newscast Rapport of the First Swedish Television (SVT1) until she disappeared and went missing in November 1984. On May 29, 1985, she and her friend Lena Gräns were found dead in a vehicle approved for the latter on the floor of the Hammarbyleden Canal in Stockholm .

The investigating authorities assumed an accident. But there are a number of theories according to which she was murdered because she had discovered a smuggling of weapons or technology from Sweden to the GDR . These theories go back to an anonymous letter received by the Swedish agency for the protection of the Constitution, Säpo, in April 1997, the content of which was journalistically processed by the newspaper Dagens Nyheter in June 1997 and which led to the Swedish prosecution authorities reopening the case. The striking passivity of the authorities and the press coverage in Germany meant that the German prosecuting authorities the case pursued under the premise that the Ministry of State Security of the GDR could ( "Stasi") be directly or indirectly responsible for the deaths of Falck and Gräns . The German authorities' investigations continued until 2006 and were closed for lack of evidence.
