The trace of the ancestors - every family has a secret is a television program of the Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk . The series on genealogy has been on the program since 2006.

The series on the subject of genealogy was developed by Peter Dreckmann, Peter Behle and Jens Strohschnieder. Since 2006, questions about genealogy have been answered in the half-hourly program. The program was first presented by Robert Burdy , and from 2016 by Mirko Drotschmann . The series from Martina Wermes receives specialist advice from the German Central Office for Genealogy . Since 2014, episodes previously broadcast have been repeated in the individual seasons. The list below only contains the first broadcast dates for each individual episode.

A counterpart to The Trace of Ancestors is the series Ancestors Wanted , which has also been produced by WDR since 2006 . After the first four episodes of 2006 and 2007, the concept of the series was changed. Since 2009, celebrities have been accompanied in their genealogical research there, but only one or two episodes are produced annually. In 2007 there was also the two-part series On the Trail of My Ancestors on ZDF and in 2008 the four-part series The Secret of My Family in the First , where the family stories of celebrities were also discussed.
