Säkerhetspolisen (also Säpo for short ; literal translation: the security police ) is the national intelligence service in Sweden . He reports to the Ministry of Justice.
Main areas of responsibility are counter-espionage , the protection of the constitution , the fight against terrorism and personal protection (for example the royal family and politicians).
organization
The headquarters are in Stockholm and there are also five regional offices. At the headquarters, Säpo is divided into eleven operational units. The workforce is around 1000 employees.
structure
The Säpo is divided into five regional units, each of which is assigned an investigation area:
- South: Blekinge , Kalmar , Kronobergs and Skåne län based in Malmö
- West: Hallands and Västra Götalands län based in Gothenburg
- Middle South: Södermanlands , Jönköpings , Värmlands , Östergötlands and Örebro län with headquarters in Örebro
- Middle North: Stockholm , Uppsala , Västmanlands , Dalarnas , Gävleborgs and Gotlands län with headquarters in Uppsala , in addition to the headquarters in Stockholm
- North: Västerbottens , Norrbottens , Västernorrlands and Jämtlands län based in Umeå
Trivia
The role of the Säkerhetspolisen or their predecessor organization during the Cold War was woven into the plot of his Millennium Trilogy by the Swedish author Stieg Larsson .
