The Cavone rises as Salandrella near Accettura on the border with the province of Potenza in the Parco Regional di Gallipoli Cognato Piccole Dolomiti Lucane , first flows to the northeast and turns to the southeast at Garaguso . From there it flows parallel to the Agri (in the south) and Basento (in the north) rivers to the Ionian Sea , into which it flows after a 49 km run at Marina di Pisticci.
