Cayetano Córdova Iturburu

Cayetano Córdova Iturburu (born February 16, 1899 in Buenos Aires , † April 25, 1977 there ) was an Argentine journalist , art critic and writer .

Life

Córdova studied at the Colegio Nacional of La La Plata and Concepción del Uruguay and at the Colegio Nacional Mariano Moreno in Buenos Aires. He first worked as a journalist for the newspaper La Razón and wrote literary articles for the Revue Inicia . Later he was one of the founders and collaborators of the magazine Martín Fierro (→ Grupo Boedo ).

In 1934 he became a member of the Communist Party , from which he was expelled in 1948 after a dispute over realistic and avant-garde literature in the Soviet Union with Rodolfo Ghioldi . He was Vice-President, Speaker and President of the Sociedad Argentina de Escritores (SADE) from 1965 to 1969 , as well as a member of the International Association of Art Critics (Paris), the PEN Club Internacional and the Academia Argentina Rubén Darío . In 1971 he was accepted into the Academia Nacional de Bellas Artes .

As a poet he made his debut in 1923 with the volume El árbol, el pájaro y el bosque , followed by La danza de la luna (1926) and, after publications in various magazines, El viento en la bandera in 1945 . In 1967 the volumes Dónde se habla de las cosas and Patria Argentina were published . He has written art critical articles for the magazines Clarín , El Mundo and El Hogar and for the Radio Municipal de Buenos Aires .

In 1938 Córdova published the report for the Spanish Civil War España bajo el comando del pueblo , 1941 Cuatro Perfiles . Other essayistic and art critical writings were Vida y doctrina de Sócrates , Diccionario de la actualidad mundial , Cómo ver un cuadro (1954) La pintura argentina del siglo XX (1958), Pintura Argentina en la colección Acquarone and La Revolución Martinfierrista (1962). Cordova also wrote the novel Soledad .

Córdova's wife Carmen de la Serna was the sister of Che Guevara's mother Celia de la Serna .
